Baptism

look here is water! what can stand in the way of my being baptized?

Acts 8:36

About baptism

At Generations Church, we believe water baptism is a celebration of your decision to follow Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

We believe it is a public declaration of three important things:

  • you are a follower of Jesus Christ
  • you are beginning a changed life in Christ
  • and you are part of a new family

Just as the symbols of the wedding and wedding ring are a declaration of a marriage covenant, water baptism is the outward declaration of the covenant you’ve made with God. As your church, we would like to stand with you as you publicly declare you have made the decision to surrender your life to the Lord.

Schedule:

Sign ups need to be received 2 weeks prior to any Baptism Celebration to ensure participation. Our volunteers will connect with you about video testimonies and require enough notice to schedule a recording and time to edit. Recordings typically take place on Sundays at 9am, please prepare to be available for this time.

UPCOMING BAPTISM CELEBRATIONS:

  • Sunday, December 4th
  • Sunday, January 22nd
  • Sunday, April 2nd
  • Sunday, June 25th

The waters of baptism do that for you, not by washing away dirt from your skin but by presenting you through Jesus’ resurrection before God with a clear conscience.

FAQ's & Resources

Baptism takes place during the Sunday worship service.

It is necessary to be dressed ready for the baptism at the beginning of the service. We suggest swimwear with modest dark coloured clothing overtop like a t-shirt and shorts.

We prefer to record your video testimony ahead of time, typically this happens a couple weeks prior to your baptism at 9am on a Sunday. A member of our team will schedule this with you.

When you fill out your baptism request form you will answer a few questions. These questions will help you to know what to say during your video testimony. You may consider having your responses on hand during your recording. The following questions will help guide your video testimony, and a leader will lead your through the process.

  • “Why is it time to get baptized?”
  • “Who do you believe Jesus is?”
  • “How did you invite Jesus to be your Lord and Saviour?”

We are pleased that your child has expressed an interest in getting baptized. With younger children, we like to confirm that the child understands what they are doing and is able to articulate what baptism is about. We advise parents to wait until their child is asking to be baptized, this is usually a good indication that they are ready.

In preparation, consider how they have expressed to you their desire to be baptized. What were their words? Who is Jesus to them? How did they make the decision to make Jesus the Saviour and Lord of their life?

If you feel your child is answering these types of questions with sincerity then continue on with the submission of the form and someone from our team will followup with you and your child.

In the case where you observe that they don’t have enough clarity in what they are deciding to do, they need to be reassured that they are desiring a good thing. We want them to be sure of their decision to follow Jesus and their own desire to take the next step. You may discover they need to be a little older, or hear more about what the Bible says about being baptized. Either way, years don’t have to pass from their initial decision to accept Jesus and getting baptized!

Please let us know if we can partner further with you as parents in helping your child grow in faith.

Yes, a member of our team would be happy to have a conversation with you. Contact us to set something up.
